The Ormer, Gâche, Hedge Veg and the celebrated Guernsey Milk
The Ormer, which is the picture on the front page, is the local rarity and sadly out of season on my arrival. I say sadly, but I’ve not eaten a normal snail, never mind a sea-snail… but, there’s only one way to find out, eh? I could manage some Gâche, traditional Guernsey fruit loaf, while I’m there though!.. and will mostly stop off to pick up some fresh Hedge Veg, while cycling past an open stall and pop my money in the pot… On my way to the dairy… to try one or all of the fantastic cheese, butter, cream and milk from the world renowned Guernsey Cow.
The Guernsey Slow Food Group… has proposed a cycle tour of some of the producers on the island and then a picnic, on Friday the 4th of June.
Good Food guernsey pops up as a pretty informative site on local foods… Plenty of information on great seafood, dairy, meat, veg and cider.
Guernsey Organic Growers, a local veg box scheme…
