Why? You may ask… And it’s a pretty valid question.
Because I can… Because I want to… Because I believe in discovering what the UK has to offer the people who live there. To show people that all those fancy shows aren’t so far-fetched. That there’s a world-wide movement, label if you like, called Slow Food and they believe too. To show that there’s people in your local area that really believe food matters and that we’re all involved in eating and living well.
We all believe food’s important, sure, but some just don’t pay much notice to the ethics behind it all… and that’s reasonable as we all live our lives as best we can. Not always being able to go to the port and five in the morning of course or shop at the award-winning deli down the high street.
(But, we’ll get there… to an ethical, available and sustainable way of eating, I don’t mean the swanky deli. Not that this is some sort of crusade against them… I love them swanky places too!)
What can we do now? Support an organisation that supports the love of food and the ethics of eating well? Or maybe just look at what’s around you… grow your own and celebrate the world of wonder that is eating local or home-grown food.
…

I’m also supporting Sustrans because on my way around these isles of
ours, they’ll be supporting me with the work they do promoting, improving
and developing cycle networks. Thanks to so many fantastic volunteers
and initiatives/projects they run. Let’s develop our national pride and really
feel that we can escape into our own country… It has so many beautiful places, for all sorts of tastes. Can the UK be our holiday destination?
…
You could also just follow (on twitter) my tour and join in with your local events; or just come and laugh at me trying to look happy whilst being exhausted!
……
This tour will hopefully highlight many issues; ranging from what sauce to put with your potatoes to global problems with agriculture…
I hope to discover what Slow Food is all about and what it’s doing in our backyard.

Pedal Power+

PedalPower+ are helping me on the journey… Helping me harness the electricity I’ll be generating over the 3000 miles of the ‘Slow Road’ tour.
Ok, so they’ve given me a serious discount on their products but I’m still giving them a couple of hundred of my own money for the pleasure of using their gear. (Just in case you thought I was being biased.)
I still would have bought their products anyway (don’t tell them that though!)… After researching all the options on the internet it came down to three options, but PedalPower+ have got it all for me. As I didn’t fancy constructing my own circuitry.
There was the possibility of buying a cheaper, seperate, dynamo hub (AC) but the transormer/responder/adapter or whatever it was called was so much on it’s own anyway… just to charge my phone up while I’m on the road.
Well, the options came down to Busch & Müller E-WERK, which is like a universal all in one adapter to go from hub dynamo to whatever you fancy, it seems.
Or, The Plug from Tout Terrain, which looks really good and neat, it’s pretty cool…
But PedalPower+ just had more to offer… Not only did they have a DC Hub Dynamo (rather then AC), but also adapters for lots of devices, handlebar mounts, a right-angle usb lead and the best bit, a battery pack; so nothing’s wasted as I cycle around. I can ride all day charging my phone and the battery pack, so I’ll have a charged phone and spare energy in the battery pack… don’t you just hate waste?!
They’ve also currently got a sale on…
Get involved!
