Bristol

Bristol…   Read all about it!

Well, I’ve not heard from the Slow Food group in Bristol, but I’ve heard they have a very nice market there and I’ll be visiting it with a big space in my belly to be filled. Who I have spoken to though is Sustrans, the UK’s leading sustainable transport charity… They’ve invited me out to lunch whilst I’m in Bristol and then on to partake in a regular bicycle polo game!

(Sustrans do some incredible work across the whole nation and deserve all the
support people can offer… check out their More Haste, Less Speed campaign)

So come along to the game, Tuesday 15th June, if you want to see me act like a right wally with a mallet, trying to stay upright and not ruin my wheels for the rest of my trip… I’ll be the one avoiding the ball! …details to follow…

As for Slow Food Bristol, they have a lovely, informative, web-site… With the Slow Food Market being the groups main success; they also have events, such as, meals with a special theme, tastings, visits to places such as vineyards, farms and special markets, workshops, talks and demonstrations.

Slow Food Bristol now runs the first regular Slow Market in the world. It has received awards and international recognition

- The market runs the first Sunday of the month on Corn Street.

“Like other Slow Food branches, we are making education a priority… to improve the standards of school food, and education about food… local produce cooked on the premises, to reduce food miles and to provide a tastier and healthier alternative to industrially-produced and reheated meals.”

They also seem to be pushing forward a new musical movement into Slow Food, which seems perfectly reasonable to fit entertainment into an evening… Yes, wouldn’t it be great to have more fun with food?!

What’s specifically Bristolian? I personally don’t know… I’d imagine historically food was brought into the city from surrounding counties… but what’s happening in the city today?

Bristol Food for Free; seems to have some sound ideals and ideas, but I find the website a little over complicated.

Bristol City Allotments, to get yourself some green space in the city or talk to some people in the know…
