Sheffield

Sheffield… Read all about it!

Ok, so there seems to be a general appreciation in Sheffield for general Yorkshire dishes, but I’m looking for what is specific to the Steel City.  Henderson’s seems to be about all I’ve found so far, and something called Sheffield Fish Cakes, but I’m not convinced yet… I’ll have to find a local chippy when I’m there to find out.

I have found, however, a Sheffield Food Network that seems pretty good and also happy to see that they’re taking part in the Transition Towns Network, which is a fabulous project to be involved in. Also Grow Sheffield which has a lovely web-site and is quite an ethical project that seems to focus on really enhancing local individuals and communities. Fits in very well with Slow Food and it’s philosophy. The site does seem really active in promoting all sorts of positive programmes for Sheffield’s love of food…

Allotments

Sheffield Breweries?… Well, it would be rude not to.
Kelham Island, Abbeydale, The Sheffield Brewery Company and the Sheffield & District branch of Camra seem to a really decent place to find out about local ales. The breweries seem really enthusiastic about their products, but you really need to be the judge of that…

Not the exact route I’ll be taking, as I’ll try to go on Sustrans Trails where possible.
